I’ve Been Trying to Find You, Sleep

I’ve been trying to find you, Sleep.

You’re hiding somewhere nearby, in the shadows

But I can’t find you.

Why do you scorn me?

What did I do?

We were once so happy, you and I.

Did the Lonely scare you away?

It frightens me, too

But we’d do better, together

I promise.

We might not win

But we could hold hands

And squeeze until it leaves, again

And then we’d prepare

And when the Lonely returns

With its grey and its moans

We would let loose dreams

The ones we made together

And wash it away, away, away

So that we could see the stars again

See the world again

See her again.

But for now I stand alone

With weary eyes for combat

And a fuzzy brain.

I’ve been trying to find you, Sleep

But you’ve moved on

And I, wide-eyed

Remain.
